Norway Criticized for Extradition to Regimes Practicing Torture

Monday 4 February 2008, by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation

imprimer

Several human rights organizations have claimed that the Norwegian military intentionally extradite Afghan prisoners of war to regimes that evidently practice torture.

Reports show that many Afghan prisoners are victims of torture. They are given electric shocks, beaten with bricks and have their nails removed. Amnesty International has requested information about the conditions of prisoners captured by the Norwegian military, without receiving any reply. Beate Slydal in Amnesty demands that Norway ceases to extradite prisoners to Afghan authorities, because there is no evidence that they are treated appropriately.
