Research Assistant, European Security and Liberty Programme (Challenge)
The Center for International Studies and Research (CERI, Centre d’études et de recherches internationales), based at Sciences Po in Paris, has one vacancy for «Research Assistant». This full-time position is available for the period from September 1st, 2008 to May 31st, 2009.
Context and Mission
Established in 1952, CERI (Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches Internationales / Center for Internatonal Studies and Research) is the leading French academic center on global affairs and regional studies. The largest of the research components of Sciences Po, the Paris-based social sciences and public affairs university, it is also institutionally affiliated and partially funded by the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique). The center brings together international relations and area-studies specialists of various disciplinary backgrounds including political science, history, economics, sociology and anthropology. Its faculty consists of over fifty fellows and a dozen research associates.
CERI participates in several research projects funded by the European Commission, including the CHALLENGE «European Security and Liberty» program (www.libertysecurity.org) concentrating on the relations between mobility, security, liberty and fundamental rights. The project has 23 partner institutions in 17 European countries and has already published numerous books, reports and working papers.
Required profile
Holding a university degree (preferably, a Master’s) in political science, law or sociology;
Being very familiar with EU affairs, in particular Justice and Home Affairs policies;
Excellent proficiency in French and in English.
Main Tasks
Assist with the preparation of scientific works and publications for the Challenge program by carrying out the relevant background research;
Contribute to the organisation of conferences, symposia and other meetings;
Participate in the management of the program (reporting, liaison with partners, administrative tasks…).
The successful applicant will be working under the direct supervision of Pr. Didier Bigo, Challenge scientific coordinator, and in association with CERI’s international programs officer.
Status
A full-time position for the period from September 1st, 2008 to May 31st, 2009.
